Focuses on a particular topic in race and science/technology. Topics vary, but focus on the history and politics of scientific inquiry and technological development within legacies and realities of racism and colonialism, including in the areas of public health, migration, labor, and reproductive rights.
May be repeated for credit.
Class Notes
Topic: Race, Time, and Technology. This special topics course proposes to develop a method of dialoguing across the disciplines of media philosophy, science and technology studies (STS), ethnic studies and area studies.We will be exploring foundational concepts shared between these fields and their development across time: concepts such as (non)sense and social death, aesthetics and politics, lived subjectivity and structural positionality.
