Introduction to statistical methods as practiced in business and economics. Topics include descriptive methods, probability, random variables, expected values, sampling, estimation, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, one- and two-sample problems, power and sample size calculations, correlation, and simple linear regression.

Prerequisite(s): Mathematics placement (MP) score of 300 or higher or completion of AM 3 or AM 11A or ECON 11A or MATH 3 or MATH 11A or MATH 16A or MATH 19A or MATH 20A. Concurrent enrollment in STAT 17L is required.

Wait list the lab section first. You cannot enroll in the STAT 17 lecture until you have successfully been enrolled in the co-requisite lab section. Enroll in the lecture portion of the course after you are enrolled in the lab.
All students - If you completed the prerequisites but get an error message, email your proof of prerequisite material to the instructor for approval to enroll - Saha Subhra - susaha@ucsc.edu. Professor Subhra will be abroad from June 22 to July 25. Please submit your request before this time. Otherwise, it will be reviewed after.
If you need to take the prerequisite in Session 1, enroll in that course first, then email summer@ucsc.edu for a permission number to enroll in this course.
From the instructor: Will use a homework software from McGraw Hill Connect (paid by the student, not included in tuition) this will allow students to access a textbook in addition to the homework software.
