Description

Focuses on a particular topic in feminist theory. Topics vary each offering but might include theorizing the gendered subject, racializing gender, politics and feminism, the relationship between queer theory and feminism, transgender studies, women of color feminisms, postcolonial and decolonial feminisms, feminist science studies. May be repeated for credit.

Enrollment Requirements

Enrollment is restricted to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Class Notes

Topic: Sexual Violence Activism: Family, Community, Nation, World
From the instructor: Analyzes sexual violence as a social issue embedded in structures of power in four sites: the family, the community, the nation, and the world. Throughout the course, students will work together to create case studies profiling different activist groups that are resisting sexual violence. Course materials will include primary and secondary readings from a variety of academic fields (history, anthropology, critical race and ethnic studies, sociology, feminist studies) along with audio-visual materials such as music and film.
