Description

Seminar in modern studio recording. Students learn aspects of recording from pre-production through mastering and distribution. Weekly recording sessions give students hands-on experience in running recording sessions and working with musicians. Admission by interview with instructor prior to first class meeting. Enrollment is restricted to music majors.

Class Notes

Open to all students over the summer - email summer@ucsc.edu for a permission code to enroll. From the instructor: Learn how to use a recording studio this summer! In this course, you will learn aspects of recording through hands-on experience and the analysis of existing recordings. We will cover the fundamentals of microphone and console operation and recording techniques, mixing, and mastering. Students will be able to choose from a number of creative assignments to work on as their final project or propose their own. As a studio assistant at Sony Music Mexico, I have worked with several Hispanic American artists such as DLD, Matisse, Miguel Bose, and Fernando Delgadillo. As an independent artist, I produce and record my own music.
