Class Notes
This course offers conceptual tools to critically assess and make sense of our lives and the world against the backdrop of the current digital media landscape. Some topics of the course include existentialism, media theory, propaganda, surveillance capitalism, the surveillant state, and the influence that the Internet has had on shaping our realities. Throughout the five-week session, we will examine these aspects by viewing films, TV shows, and documentaries, and by reading relevant texts to highlight and discuss corresponding ideas and themes. Students will increase their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills as well as gain theoretical and practical knowledge for interpreting and navigating the present-day media ecosystem. All students are welcome.
