Class Notes

TOPIC: "Walking from California to France: Ritual Performances as Sculpture". This course will expand how Sculpture can be enhanced through embodied practices, namely walking. As part of the Global Classroom program, we are collaborating with students at the ESAAA -Experimental School of Art Annecy in the Alps of France. Students will share their walking experiences from their different geographical areas; the French Alps and the California Coastal Redwood Forest. We will exchange impressions of place, share warm drinks and eat yummy foods together as we speculate new worlds together. We will create and exchange maps, videos, photographs, read texts and write letters. We will also navigate two languages as we imagine, describe, and appreciate the world around us. Requirements are curiosity, commitment to completing coursework on time, and the ability to improvise.
