Topics in Feminist Studies: Media, Medicine, and Militarization
All Students - restrictions lifted in summer.
From the Instructor:
This course focuses on the imbrications of psychiatric medicine and militarism in the production of the normative subject. Together, we will consider media as an intermediary translating psychiatry into popular culture, working to re-articulate normative ideologies of gender, sexuality, race, and class. Through a combination of literature, history, media, and theory, we will explore representations of normalcy, deviancy, insanity, and madness.
