Description

Systematic introduction to the nature of politics and government, organized around the dynamic relationship between power, principle, and process in democratic politics. Provides historic and contemporary overview; explores the interactions among government, laws, and societies at the national and international levels.

Class Notes

In summer, enrollment restrictions are lifted for all students. Additional course information: "In the Trump era, how are individuals and groups across the political spectrum engaging with the government? What principles guide people inside and outside of the state? How do US institutional mechanisms stack up when compared to the way countries operate in other parts of the world? We will confront the many paradoxes at the heart of governance through examination of policies, processes, principles and power."
