Description

Concentrates on photographic project development, developing analytical skills designed to help direct students' own photographic ideas. Helps students create a conceptual theoretical framework through image-making in the field and studio, through critique and discussion, through readings, and by studying the work of artists. Students are billed a materials fee. May be repeated for credit.

Enrollment Requirements

Prerequisite(s): One course from Art 20I; and two non-photography lower-division art studios from Art 15, 20G, 20H, 20J, 20K, 26, and Computational Media 25. Enrollment is restricted to art majors.

Class Notes

In summer, all prerequisites and restrictions are lifted. This course runs from August 1-23. The Photography Field Research Quarter (PFRQ) is a 10 unit class that takes place entirely in the field. The PFRQ is a rigorous and intensive study in field research methods, data acquisition and storage, and advanced photographic practices. Students and the instructor are going to travel by van through seven UC NRS Reserves covering ground from Northern Mendocino County to the Eastern Sierra, down to the Salton Sea and back up through Big Sur. Class capacity limited to 11 students. $500 course fee (not including food).
